How to Clean Vomit From Your Car

By March 5, 2016Uncategorized

We always recommend being procative during a possible throw up situation, if you can catch the incident before it happens, pulling over or directing your passenger’s vomit into a plastic bag is always your best case scenario. You’re most likely past this point if you’re reading this blog post so here is what you should do if this happens to you.

Please note: You can skip this entire process and get back to driving in an hour or less by calling us at 855-24-MESSY:

1. GET PAPER TOWELS ON IT

Don’t panic just get ready to deal with the situation at hand.  Grab a bunch or paper towles, and immediately blot and wipe of as much of the affected area as you can.  Your goal is absorbing up as much of the liquid portions of the vomit as possible and wiping up the lightly splattered areas.

2. GET SOLID CHUNKS OF VOMIT OUT OF YOUR CAR ASAP

Don’t worry to much about liquid vomit seaping further into the seats as you pull out the chunks (all the damage has already been done).  What you are focusing on at this time is just getting as much of vomit as you can see out of the car.

3. MAKE CLEANING SOLUTION

Once you have finished removing all the big chunks and wiping down the affected areas you will need a small bucket to make your vomit cleaning solution as well as a spray bottle to put your carpet cleaning solution into.

Leather Surface (make paste to scrub leather surfaces)

  • 3 parts baking soda
  • 1 part water

Carpet/Upholstery/Vinyl Cleaning Solution  (stir thoroughly and put in spray bottle)

  • 1/2 cup water
  • 3 tablespoons white vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon dishwashing liquid
  • 1/2 cup club soda

4. APPLY CLEANING SOLUTION AND SCRUB SURFACES

Spray an ample amount of solution into the carpets and use a micro-fiber cloth to apply the paste solution to leather surfaces.  Let all areas sit saturated in your homemade solution for 5-10 minutes. Apply more solution to affected areas while you srub the surfaces.  You are using a micro-fiber cloth to scrub all leather and plastic based surfaces, and a hard-brisstle brush on all carpets and upholstery.

5. WIPE DOWN ALL SURFACES

Now that you have thoroughly removed all the vomit and scrubbed down all the surfaces areas with cleaning solution,  you want to take a freshly water dampened cloth and wipe down all the affected vinyl/ leather/plastic/upholstery surfaces.

6. LEAVE ALL DOORS AND/OR WINDOWS OPEN AND LET CAR AIR DRY

We recommend using your cleaning solution and spraying down all fabric/carpet surfaces one more time before you let the car air dry for 3-4 hours.
